Position – Head of Health & Safety
Location – Head office (Chessington) 40% and Site (London Sites) 60%
Division – Major Projects
Salary - £70,000 - £80,000 + Travel + Package
Sector – Leisure Fitout & Refurbishment
THE CLIENT:
Founded 20 years ago, our client is recognised as one of the leading interior fit out specialists. They run a variety of projects in several sectors. From Design and Build to Traditional build and Hotels/Leisure to Museums, there isn’t much these specialists can’t do.
Turnover last year was over £120m and the organisation carried out some of the most challenging and intricate projects in Central London and surrounding areas. They are currently in the process of successfully adding a multitude of exciting projects to their pre-existing and established pipeline of work and are now looking at strengthening their management team with a Head of Health & Safety.
The current portfolio for the team includes one private members club in Fitzrovia, one high end, private residence in Mayfair and a boutique hotel in West One.

JOB SPECIFICATION:
Strategic / Planning
- Plan their development systems
- Lead and take responsibility for H&S
- Develop team training
- Develop the H&S culture
- Reduce company risk
- Lead monthly H&S objective
Board Reporting
- Prepare and issue a monthly H&S report
- Prepare and issue an annual detailed H&S report
- Maintain KPI and risk schedule
- Weekly update with Board Director
Quality Control
- Ensure high standard of quality on site
- Ensure high standard of quality within the offices
- Periodical audit to make sure quality control is met
Communication Progression
- Maintain H&S communication
- Ensure monthly good practice is produced
- Provide strong leadership
- Promote H&S to all
- Engage the workforce
Group Companies
- Provide guidance / support to the hub & AV’s
- Liaise with external providers
Company Compliance
- Ensure the company remains H&S compliant
- Ensure all new and existing employees receive inductions
- Ensure that all employees are familiar with their H&S policy & procedures
Project Tender Management
- Attend Pre-Start/White Book handover meetings
- Review H&S requirements of our projects
- Ensure H&S PQQs and tender questionnaires are completed
- Spot check and audit sites
- Undertake periodic review of H&S PQQ and standard questionnaires
Accident and Incident Reporting
- Ensure accident and incident investigations are undertaken
- Work with the Financial Director with regard to insurance claims
- Represent the company in legal situations regarding H&S
- Ensure maintenance and implementation of accident and near-miss statistics
- Encourage recording of near misses
- Ensure periodic review and investigations are carried out
Head Office Procedures
- Ensure fire alarm tests are undertaken
- Ensure statutory notices at offices and workshop are kept up to date
- Manage and update safety notice boards
- Issue H&S newsletter annual booklet
- Ensure emergency arrangements are maintained
- Arrange and champion annual inspection
- Periodic review to be carried out
Staff Management
- Line manager for H&S managers
- Fire marshal reviews, arrangements and management
- Review first aiders
- Holiday cover for H&S Managers
System Management
- H&S Policy review
- IMS review and development
- Awards and accreditations
- Annual audit ISO 14001 & 45001
H&S External Company Management
- Manage and liaise with Fernley’s
- Manage and liaise with DL Enterprise

Improve Systems
- Maintain H&S training plan
- Ensure staff are trained to the correct H&S competency
- Ensure Directors are kept informed of training arrangements
- Ensure training is provided on the system and procedures
- Periodic review to be carried out
REQUIREMENTS
- Previous experience in Fitout / Refurbishment
- NEBOSH Construction / General
- NEBOSH Diploma / NVQ 6 Health and Safety
- Chartered Member of IOSH with Construction / Fitout experience
- CSCS card
- Environmental, Management, Training, Auditing and Temporary Works qualifications preferable but not essential
- Flexible self-starter with ability to prioritise
- Displays strong leadership skills
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Sound knowledge and understanding of relevant Health and Safety guidelines including Construction Design and Management regulations.
